We're walking

May 1st is Walk for Babies. We were going to walk last year but the kiddos were still so small and it ended up being rainy and pretty cool that day. This year we're walking.

We've formed a team for our Quiet Light Foundation. Anyone is welcome to come walk with us (yes its just a walk, not a run). It's 3 miles at Mahoney State Park. It's free to enroll to walk. If you want to walk with us, please sign up! We'd love to have a huge team walking behind Larry and Moe (their new nicknames) in the jogger.

What's new

There's been lots of little things going on around here and steps forward so we thought we'd share and some new pics as well.

*We finally eat puffs! You know those containers of little things that sort of melt in your mouth - we can finally eat them if you break them in half!
*Payton has graduated to only receiving one physical therapy appointment a week.
*We drink out of real cups! With a little help from mom, we can drink out of real cups. We haven't mastered sippy cups yet but we are doing pretty good with the real thing. We prefer water or milk in them. But since Parker can't have regular milk, he has almond milk.
*Payton's been officially given the ok to get off her oxygen from her hospital visit. The official diagnosis - pneumonia and bronchiolitis.
*Parker is cutting 4 more teeth all at the same time. That means the latest tally is - Parker=6, Payton=6. Dead even.
*Mom went shopping at Target with Aunt Bo. Which means we have little leather jackets to wear this spring :)
*Parker is getting his first haircut today. His bangs are so long they are hanging in his eyes so we are going to trim them up.
*Parker has become a pro at wearing his backpack with his pump and feeding bag around while he's eating. Good thing. When he's eating but wants to be busy, mom was getting tired of having to chase him down all the time.

Hope you all have a great week and stay warm!

Children's Hospital

For the past year, every doctor we went to asked if either of the babies had had another hospitalization since coming home. The answer was always 'no'. Every single one of them was shocked and impressed, considering how early they were and their history.

Last Tuesday, I got a call in the afternoon from Respite Care that Payton was running a fever. I called Chris to go get her. Before he made it there, they called back to say her fever hadn't come down with Tylenol and was over 101, and her oxygen sats were down to about 80. I called Chris and told him to get her and take her straight to the pediatrician. I call ed the doctor's office to tell them that they were coming in.

Chris called me at work to say they had put her on oxygen in the office and they were doing a direct admit to the hospital from there. I went and grabbed Parker and met them at the office. We switched kids in the parking lot and I took Payton to Children's Hospital to be admitted.

She was borderline critical when we got there. I heard the word 'vent' thrown out a few times. It was not good. I can't even count the number of people that came in to talk to us in those first few hours.

The problem with a baby with chronic lung disease and BPD (among other things) is that their chest xrays always look awful. They were unable to tell exactly if  she had pneumonia. They were concerned about RSV and did a culture. Because they weren't sure what Payton had, we were on isloation.

We daily had treatments, medicine, respiratory therapy, the pulmonologist, the pediatrician, and a host of others in our room. After 36 hours, her fever broke, her oxygen was a little better, and she wasn't nearly as lethargic.

On January 15th last year we brought Payton home from the NICU with a monitor and oxygen. Yesterday, January 16th,  we brought Payton home yesterday after 5 days of isolation (do you know how hard that is with a naughty, active little girl?)  with a monitor and oxygen. Fingers crossed we can get off of it again soon.

Very merry un-birthday

One year ago today babies were supposed to be born. But they had other plans. Today, January 15th, is their shoulda-coulda-woulda-oughta been birthday. Happy un-birthday babies! We're so proud of you!

More at the cousins

Here's some more pics Stacey took while they were playing. Thank you!

At the cousins

This past Sunday Kristin offered lunch and a movie as a belated birthday outing. It had been almost 2 years since I'd seen a movie. Even though it was snowing a bit, the babies packed up and went to Stacey's house to play for a couple hours.

Movie and lunch at Paradise Bakery were great (thanks Kristin!). The kiddos had a good time. It's nice to know that they're well taken care of and having fun so I can put the guard down for a little bit. Thank you Stacey for letting them come over! And thanks Bunny, Sarah, Joe, Haley and the boys for helping entertain them for a little while. It was much appreciated. :)

By the numbers

We had our 15 months appointment today. Yikes! 15 months!

Here's the latest stats-
Parker - 18lbs 9oz., 28 3/4 inches long
Payton - 21lbs 1oz, 28 3/4 inches long

They are both middle of the pack for their adjusted age and on the low end of the curve for their actual age. Just like normal and should be expected.

They are growing in all the right spots, no major new issues (just our normal same old stuff).

They both got 3 shots today. Parker cried for about 15 seconds, Payton is a major drama queen. They have to go back on Monday for their second Synagis shot of the winter.

Has anyone seen my babies? They're little people now.
