Just Breathe

Life is strange. Prematurity is a weird thing. There is no rhyme, no reason, no logic that can make all the stuff that is totally a kick in the pants seem any easier to take.

Why does a little girl born just two days before mine have such a horrible time with seizures?
Why do babies who got to stay in and “cook” for an extra two weeks have cerebral palsy and mine don’t?
Why does another baby born at the same time get to come home sooner?

I feel lucky. I feel guilty. I feel guilty for feeling lucky. I ache, love, and rally for these babies and families who I have never met like they were someone I have known my whole life.

It’s a hard thing – living through a nightmare of your own. Watching others live through theirs that looks just like yours did. Rooting people on from a distance and hoping they can feel it and know how much you care.

You can’t fix things for others but you can make sure they know they are loved. There aren’t many things in life quite as fierce as parent who’s little one is struggling in some way.

For Nic, Michele, Sheena, Kala, Heather, Emily, Heather, Trendalyn and too many others to name…
You are an inspiration. You are loved. You are stronger than you know.  We’re listening, watching, cheering you on. Most importantly, there are people here if you need anything.

And for one more...

This little girl is in the twins' preschool class. She has been in classes with them for almost 3 years now. Her grandma is trying to do something amazing for her. Please just take a moment to at least read this and see her infectious smile... Keys for Keira

Silver Lining

Things have been heavy on my mind lately. Lots to do, not enough time. Spring can't come fast enough. And then during a moment on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at the park, when I thought the fresh air and sunshine were enough to help, I caught my silver lining...

Art & Valentines

It's been a crazy couple days here in twin-ville. This week was the our big bake sale and art sale for Respite Care. I made 4 dozen cookies to take as our contibution. Then on Wednesday, it was time to scoop up some great art the kiddos made. Call me a total geek, but I love when respite does this. All the pieces are amazing that the kids make. And I love the special silent auction pieces, and the stuff sent over from Northwest High School to sell just because.

Not only did we have to do up Valentine's for our class, I wanted to do something special for the teachers. Since the toddler room is attached to the preschool room, the teachers help out in both rooms alot, we still see them all the time and lets face it, I love both sets of teachers. So it was 8 special little bundles to take for all the teachers.

A nice day after the sale meant we hit the park on our way home to blow off a little steam. I love a 50+ degree day in February!

A big day with parties at school, Valentine's in the mail from Honor, special presents from MaMaw, Bo and Dave and mom and dad, topped off with a special dinner out...whew! I don't know about them, but I'm definitely pooped!

An afternoon among the Legos

We are finally feeling better...yay!!! So after a week or so of nebulizers, steroids, tylenol and our latest round of illness on top of it being yucky outside and we were stuck in the house...
We were getting a little bit of cabin fever and the duo was being a little squirrely...

so we broke out of here in a little bit of sunshine on Saturday and went to the botanical gardens for the Lego displays. They have 13 different creations all completely made of Legos. They were so cool. And it was a little like a scavenger hunt to find a few of them. Completely amazing. Anyone that's local, this is definitely worth a stop.
