A week in the life...

Of the babies. Obviously not of me - the babies haven't learned to take my picture yet and no one wants to see how many t-shirts I go through. :)

When you're being a tough man and wearing your harley shirt, you should put on dad's stocking cap and motorcycle glasses.

And if your Payton, if your brother can do it, so can you.
Parker likes to think that his red basket is a hat.
And dump out all the eggs. Just another reason why we didn't do an actual egg hunt.
"Ok Mom. My purple shoes match, and I know they go on my feet (I think). Now, I'm just no sure how to get them on there".
This is your classic "just as you pushed the button, your toddlers laughed and ran toward you to see what you were doing with the camera" picture.
"I'm just hanging out waiting to get my jammies on Mom."
"Do you like my nose all crinkled up?"
"I am so tired but I love my chair."
"Hey Daddy, are you in there? I have my jacket and I'm ready to go to school now."

The Easter that was

Last year on Easter we were getting ready to move and ate pizza for dinner on the living room floor of the new house. The babies sat in their car seats and had machines hooked up to them. This year, we had a big breakfast with daddy before he had to work. Then had a big dinner with Aunt Bo when she got off work.

The day before Easter, we got visits from Nana and Papa and from Grandpa and Carolyn. Nana and Papa gave us Easter baskets filled with all the essentials - a couple stuffed rabbits, Ritz crackers, shortbread cookies and pudding cups!

Because the babies are way more interested in playing with the packaging of the pudding cups, we didn't do any Easter egg hunts. Next year will be different. Grandpa and Carolyn brought us some SUPER cute clothes. They already wore a few of the shirts to school and were a total hit. And the girls all loved Parker, which is always important. :)

Labeling

While the kiddos have their own bumps in the road, mom has found her own - labeling. We've had a couple of our 18 month appointments, and a few phone calls for the business end of things for the babies and most of those have focused on answering questions about what they can and can't do. For the lists that we're given, they mostly can't. That's frustrating. They do all of these great things they really have no business doing, all things considered.

To look at them, they look healthy. I've been told by more than one person that they are cute (and I'm not just making that up because I'm the mom). But there are real concerns - language, overall delays, head growth, eating, sleeping, developmental. No one can see that when they look at them. Because the machines are gone (except the feeding tube) and we don't have a label on us like "cerebal palsy", then there is an overall assumption that everything is fine. It is, and its not.

So as I work to fight for more for them for their hurdles, and work to get over my own, I'm also going to try to keep focusing more on what they can do, and not what they can't.

Tired of looking at mom

This past weekend was ANOTHER one that was less than ideal for doing much outside. Hello...spring...are you there? The babies are SO tired of looking at me. They've been staring at me for months. The sun peaked out for a few minutes on Sunday so we took advantage. Dad had put together our wagon and we decided to break it in. We took to the sidewalk and loved it!

What do teething twins look like?

Bike time!

We took a trip down to the garage this past weekend to check out Daddy's bike. And to make sure that we were prepared, we wore our leather jackets.

The big 1-8

We are now 18 months old (don't let our size fool you). This morning we had our 18 month doctors appointment. Thank goodness Chris could go along to help since it's never fun having 2 get shots at the same time and trying to hold, comfort and get dressed again both of them.

Despite my worries that Parker is a runt and not gaining weight very fast, Dr. Woodford says he's still on target and making forward progress. The one area we're going to keep watching is his head circumference. There hasn't been much movement there, so it's something we'll keep and eye on and talk about the next time we go back. He's 30 inches long an a whopping 19lbs 13oz. He's in the 1% for weight and 3% for height for his actual age.

Payton is doing fine but was less than happy to get her 2 shots today. She is 30.25 inches and 23lbs 12oz. So she's still short, but her baby belly has finally come in.

I told the doctor to fix the fact that they can't sleep and he laughed at me. We talked about what they can and can't do, and what they're "supposed" to be doing. There are some concerns. We follow-up in a month with the NICU follow-up clinic at UNMC in a month.

We are done with shots now until kindergarten (YAY!). On the bad side, we have double sinus infections - which might have explained the fevers we dealt with on and off since Friday.

One appointment done. When you turn 18 months, all your doctors want to see you. We'll also be moonlighting in the next month at the ENT, pulmonology, Early Intervention, the follow-up clinic and at least one other I'm forgeting.

Busy, busy, busy

Wrestle with mommy time!

I'm going to get you mommy, look out!

Daddy, help me look out the window!

What? I'm not doing anything.

I love this little vaccuum!

Look, I can do it all by myself.

Nothing is better on a cold day then shredding a box of Kleenex.

Or, you can figure out how to take your shirt off by yourself, grab Mom's boots and make a run for it.

Yep, if sister doesn't have to wear a shirt, then I'm not wearing pants. Between us we're one naked baby, and one dressed baby.
Here's to warmer days ahead and finally getting to play outside. Happy Spring!
